Webinar on SST Revisions – Key Impacts on Rubber Glove Manufacturers

A joint webinar hosted by MARGMA & TRATAX on a topic of critical importance to rubber glove industry: “SST Revisions – Key Impacts on Rubber Glove Manufacturers”.

On 8 July 2025, the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) successfully organised a webinar titled “SST Revisions – Key Impacts on Rubber Glove Manufacturers”. The session provided an overview of the latest changes and feature expert insights on how manufacturers can navigate the evolving SST landscape.

In the 2025 Budget on 18 October, the MADANI Government announced major revisions to Malaysia’s Sales and Service Tax – effective 1 July 2025. Sales-tax rates will rise on a broader range of non-essential and luxury goods while the scope of Service Tax will expand significantly. The Finance Ministry projects these changes will generate an additional RM 5 billion in revenue.

Given these developments, the webinar aimed to address pressing industry concerns, including:

• The impact of revised SST rates on rubber glove manufacturers
• Changes in tax treatment for new materials and manufacturing inputs
• Compliance adjustments for pricing, cost management, and operational processess

The session featured presentations by two expert speakers from TRATAX—Dato’ Subromaniam Tholasy and Mr. Thenesh Kannaa.

The topics covered inclusive of:

• Impact of the removal of sales tax exemptions on glove manufacturers
• Compliance timeline: Amendments take effect on 1 July 2025, with a grace period for non-registered manufacturers until 1 September 2025
• Implications on exemptions for manufacturing inputs
• Effects of service tax expansion on manufacturing-related costs.

The event received strong participation, with 190 registrants and 163 attendees, achieving an 85.3% conversion rate. Attendees rated the session positively, with feedback highlighting the webinar as “good” to “excellent” in relevance and delivery.

The Q&A segment further enriched the discussion, allowing participants to engage with experts and clarify sector-specific concerns.
